EXHIBITION | METASINGULARITY

The manner in which technology has been adopted has caused human alienation. 

Imagine a global manufacturer making sneakers. One set of workers may be making only laces, while another group produces the soles. Someone else could be responsible for the inner soles and yet another factory could oversee the making of the logo to be attached to the sneaker.

A machine typically would put the entire shoe together. Resident in different parts of the world, the workers may leave their homes before sunrise to commute to the factory, work indoors all day and return to their homes after sunset. It is not unlikely that the various parts of the shoe are used for many different styles of shoes so that it is not clear to the workers what shoe exactly they are working on. 

Industrialization and its characteristic work specialization therefore have resulted in humans being alienated from each other, alienated from the product that they are working on, alienated from the production process as a whole and also alienated from nature. 

In the same vein, globalization fuelled by technology, has led to human homogenization resulting in the dilution of local traditions and languages. Human psychology is overwhelmed by the inability to process the information overload associated with the information age.

Human skill has been lost with technology doing complicated work with much greater efficiency and accuracy. 

With social media, there is a disconnect and disparity between projected realities and the real world.

It is predicted that Artificial Intelligence will grow beyond human control and conception, bringing forth accelerated evolution on many fronts and exacerbating human alienation. 

This exhibition asks the question: Why do the world at large, most government leaders and prominent academic and social organizations watch technology's and in particular AI’s omnipotence and pervasiveness expand, seemingly powerless to control its trajectory and momentum?

Considering that Human Consciousness is largely assimilated and engineered, either grossly or subtly, it can be asserted that Human Intelligence is Artificial Intelligence in a sense, in so far as it not entirely self-created. Technological Artificial Intelligence created by Human Artificial Intelligence can therefore be said to be an Augmented Artificial Intelligence. This technological Augmented Artificial Intelligence therefore becomes a necessary mirror of our own Human Consciousness and Intelligence, assisting us to become aware of ourselves, such awareness informing our Evolution. 

The Metasingularity exhibition also invites the contemplation of a controversial outlook, imagining the technological singularity as something affirmative that must run its course as a necessary part of our human evolution. It encourages curiosity over fear in terms of what might emerge beyond the technological singularity, hence the title Metasingularity.
