EXHIBITION | SYNAESTHESIA OF TIME

The Synaesthesia of Time exhibition is based on the book Hanaco and I: An Uncanny Love Story, authored by Rahmat Hanamatsuri. The exhibition expresses the concepts of identity and consciousness, its perceived origin, composition, classification and fragmentation. 

In particular the concept of Ipseity is explored.

Love in its various forms is considered as a manifestation of a Philosophy of Identity rooted in Quantum Mechanics. As such, love is contemplated as a projection and symbolism of identities being aware of and longing for the copies of itself in time and space. The duality of being one but simultaneously different is also considered. 

The concept of Identity is examined through the network-satellite-shadow analogy, which posits a collective consciousness （network） as being an integration of identities （satellites） organized in a fully connected topology. The term satellite within the context of this analogy, relates to the identity holding the vocation of "attendant", "guard," or "companion", both in relation to the collective consciousness and the other entities within the collective. 

A satellite identity separated from the collective whole, drifts in a foreign milieu. It is alienated from the whole and other identities in the collective consciousness, roaming in space in a state of existential dread, alienation and identity crisis. 

In its drifting state, the satellite still experiences some qualities and vague memories of being in the collective but has lost the exact specifications for doing so.  More obvious is the drifting satellite’s loss of agency and sophistication in terms of language.

The life of the estranged satellite is one of programming and engineering within a simulation created by the limited consciousness of the disconnected universe of satellites.

This simulation naturally must deal with the dilemma of a chasm between the real of the collective consciousness and the illusion of the drifting satellite collective. 

The question then arises: How do us alienated beings reconnect with the collective consciousness? Intuitively, it feels as if this belonging already exists and that we have access to it. What remains for us to do then is to cultivate our way back home as it were. 

And since the simulation is programmed differently for each drifting satellite, no path home is the same as the others'. 

Finding a new Physics and a Mathematics to express this Physics, is hypothesized as being the map to our old home. The Physics and Mathematics as we experience it in our human existence are both a symptom of our amnesia and alienation, but also the cause of this ever amplifying and exacerbating dilemma.
